Meet the Owner
The dictionary describes evolution as “the gradual development of something, especially from a simple to more complex form”.
For us, Evolution is a functional training studio. Gradually developing people into better, stronger versions of themselves.
The word evolution holds a lot of meaning. It represents the physical and mental changes that accompany taking charge of your health and life. More than just losing weight or dropping inches, it means fighting back against the changes our bodies begin to take on as we age. Or spend years in careers where 8 hours of the day are spent sitting in a chair hunched over a keyboard, or even swinging a sledge hammer. It means fighting back against preventable diseases that accompany lack of activity or poor food choices.
It means taking control of your life and changing the way that you age.
At the heart of it, to evolve simply means to change. And that’s what we are trying to accomplish. In more ways than one. We want to change the way that people participate in fitness programs. We do not have huge isolation machines or spend hours on a treadmill. This is not your typical gym. “Functional training” means teaching your body to move more effectively in everyday life. And we focus on movement patterns and equipment that will do just that.

Private Training
Our senior fitness program is designed with the idea that the key to a long, healthy life is to keep your body moving. Regular exercise has been shown to help fight preventable diseases such as diabetes and heart disease. What’s more, social interaction is vital for mental well being. Essentially, we really do need each other. Sadly, as we grow older, we lose friends, spouses, and sometimes even children. Our classes aim to connect people with their peers because when you mix movement with friendship and support, it can even help to prevent the most dreaded conditions such as Alzheimers and dementia.
I was shocked to learn that the leading cause of injury and preventable death in the senior population is falling. As we age, our bodies naturally lose power and coordination. While we cannot stop this natural process from occurring, we want to help strengthen those areas as much as we can. We also want to help build confidence in our body’s abilities because sometimes the fear of falling leads us to carry ourselves in a way that actually causes the fall to occur.
A common reason for an older person to enter assisted living is because they cannot stand back up from a toilet. That is, essentially, one squat. The idea that one squat can separate a person from their home and independence permanently is an idea that I cannot sit comfortably with.
While some fitness trainers want to build you a 6 pack for your beach body, I want to help you hold onto your grandchildren. Or to push your grocery cart through the store and carry your bags into your home. I want you to feel confident in your ability to complete the daily tasks required for living. And I want to help you live your best life for as long as possible.
You will never be asked to do more than your body is ready to do. We will challenge you, but gradually. So that you grow slowly in both strength and comfort with the movements. Our classes are intentionally made small so that you are able to receive as much individual attention as possible within the group setting. Please reserve your appointment in advance as spots are limited.
We look forward to helping you improve in the areas of your life that are important to you!
Senior Fitness
My name is Lauri Kozarian. I began my fitness journey when at 37 years old, I found myself overweight, defeated and depressed. I had spent nearly two decades bouncing between fad diets just to watch myself gain and lose the same 20lbs. It was at that point that I decided to finally take control of my health and life through proper nutrition and exercise. After gaining tremendous confidence and self esteem through a 50+ pound weight loss, I was inspired to become a Certified Personal Trainer through ACE Fitness. I have continued my education with ACE and specialized in Orthopedic Exercise and Senior Fitness. I am a certified Corrective Exercise Specialist in the Biomechanics Method, a Certified Functional Aging Specialist with the Functional Aging Institute, and Precision Nutrition Level 1 certified . Combined with my psychology degree from Penn State, I am fulfilling my dream of helping others achieve their personal goals. Let me join in helping you create the best version of yourself!
